Living in the Woods.....

I live in a small woods approximately 43 acres. There are alot of advantages living in the woods, but there's also a few disadvantages. Yesterday I was thinking of one disadvantage. I knew it was supposed to rain yesterday so we hurried and got the last of our flowers and cucumbers planted. And also the last of my little yard ornaments out...my fairies and gnomes. We sat down on the swing outside and a gentle rain started. It was nice, I wouldn't even have to water anything. All at once it sounded like a dinosaur coming through the trees....a big wind was coming. The sky got alot darker and it was really windy. I went inside and since the TV had lost its satellite signal I turned the scanner on the weather channel just for fun. Well, come to find out there was a tornado just south of my house. That must have been what all the wind was abut. We couldn't see much except the sky above us since we live in the woods. The safest place in my house is in my little bathroom. It sits in the middle of the house surrounded by other rooms. My husband decides to take a shower in the other bathrooom during the thunderstorm. I don't know if that's really a wise thing to do ro not when there's tornados close by, but I told him to keep one hand on a towel in case he gets blowed away. Hehe. Anyway, everything blew on by and I haven't heard of any damage. That's the 2nd tornado this year that's been near to us. Other disadvantages of living in the woods are:

1....It's hard to get a breeze on a hot humid day. The trees block the wind.

2....All the animals think they own the place. They eat my trees, flowers & garden. The buck deer rub their antlers on my small trees in the fall...killing them.

3....Well water....ours is nasty! We have to haul drinking water from my mom's.

4....If it snows a ton, we're snowed in. Which I love, but we're expected to go to work anyway.

5....When I need a package delivered or a service man to come to my house, they have the hardest time finding my place. We tell them exactly how to get here but for some reason they won't turn on the road that leads back in the woods!

6....TICKS! But I suppose people in town have ticks too.....

7....Lots of poison ivy.....but I would get that anyway....from geocaching....

8....Can't see a beautiful sunrise or sunset from my house

I tried to think of 10...but I can't think of anymore. :)

Perfect Geocaching Day

I've been so busy I haven't had time to write in here. Saturday I was geocaching ALL day long! Whew! Two others and myself started out at 6:00 in the morning, and before we got home we found 44 caches. That's the most I've ever found in a day. We were on our way to an event cache about 45 miles away, so we were picking up caches all along the way. Everyone met at the event cache, ate breakfast, then either stayed there and enjoyed the activities they had planned out, went out to the special event caches they had or searched for the caches in the nearby area. We picked up 2 other guys we knew at the event cache and searched for the caches in the area. Everyone was to meet back at the park at 6:00 for some yummy food. It was a great day. We were all totally wore out by the end of the day. It takes a lot of work (and money) to put an event cache on and everyone really appreciates it when someone takes the time and trouble to do it. You get to meet alot of other geocachers and it's a great time. The only problem is...now I have 44 caches to log in on geocaching.com . I was working on it for a few hours today and I'm still not done! The best thing I left in a cache was a little fake spider. The next person that came along didn't know it was fake and ended up thowing the whole thing. He realized it was fake, and tried to find it, but couldn't. Heehee..I'm so mean! At the event, I won a geocache coin, and the others with me won a geocache shirt and a geocache coin. It was perfect day..not too hot..not too cold..and not windy!

Shopping Spree!

The other day I had to go to M______ so I decided to go to the mall and go shopping. I have to say I'm not much of a shopper. I just don't go that often. I suppose if I was filthy rich, I'd go every other day, but as things are, I rarely buy anything for myself. And I very rarely go shopping all by myself--which was actually kind of fun--for a change. First I bought a new pair of tennis shoes--which ended up being exactly like my old ones! I always buy skechers coz whenever I buy cheap shoes they always end up squeaking way before the shoes wear out. And believe me--I wear them until they're wore out. But I'll save these shoes for when I'm shopping, or going somewhere, and I'll wear my others to wear around the house or for just whatever.
Next I needed a new pair of jeans coz like I said I wear my clothes until they're worn out. It's hard to find clothes I like. I call 98% of clothes in the stores "teenie-bopper clothes" (meaning for the very young) or "old lady clothes" (something your grandma would wear). I have nothing against teenie boppers or old ladies--I just don't wanna wear their clothes. In the teenie bopper sizes everything is made toothpick sizes or has holes or paint on them. I have enough holey, paint-splattered jeans without having to pay $50 for a brand new pair! I would be willing to sell mine half price to the teenie boppers for what they're going to buy them at the mall for. The "old lady jeans" don't really look like the jeans I'm wanting. They usually have no pockets and have elastic around the waist--which maybe I'll be wearing someday but I seriously doubt it--but that's a whole other post. Finally I found a pair that didn't make me look too fat. My husband says I never look fat--but he always tells me I look good--even when I'm 100% sure I look like total crap. So I never know what to believe of his opinions. If I want an honest answer, I ask my sister. If I want a compliment, I ask him. The pair I got is just a little wore around the bottom of the legs. (You really can't tell it) I'll have to go to a bigger town to get the ones I really want--maybe "Lucky" jeans. I also picked up a top that was on sale. :)
Next I wanted some fancy bobby pins for my hair--to hold those stray strands that fall in my face. I found some pretty ones--blue, pink, green, etc. I can't believe bobby pins aren't even cheap! Last of all I stopped by the card shop and bought some graduation cards and Mother's Day cards. (Mother's Day was yesterday) I love sending out cards, even tho like everything else they're not cheap either. Yes...I'm a tightwad. I'm usually very careful how I spend my money. But that day was an exception. I blew some money on myself before I even looked the the bills. :)

The Amazing Race!

One of my favorite TV shows is "The Amazing Race". It started out with 11 teams (2 people in a team). They all race from this place to the next place. They end up going all over the world and having to do crazy things like bungee jump, sky-dive, walk into a pool of alligators or eat something really nasty...just to name a few. I would love love LOVE to be on that show, but there's only 1 problem. I can't swim! I would try out for that show if it wasn't for that. Imagine winning $1,000,000 (that's 1 million) for just running all over the world (something that is a dream of mine anyway). I don't know if I could have walked thru the middle of a bunch of tigers likd they had to one year but most things don't seem like they would be too terribly bad. This year I'm rooting for BJ & Tyler (the hippies) or Ray & Yolanda to win. There's only 2 other teams in the race and I want them OUT. One team is usually eliminated every week.
The only thing I really hate is when the teams start being mean to their own team-mates or when they go into "Ugly American Mode." That's when they're in another country and they act like an "ugly American". Example: Last year everyone was in....I think it was Pakistan...and 1 guy refused to pay his taxi driver. They ended up at the Police Station. After alot of arguing and yellling the American guy threw the money down at the feet of the taxi driver. I was shocked. No wonder people hate Americans I thought. He knew he was gonna have to pay him in the 1st place. Why did he waste his time when he's in a race for a million $$ arguing over a few $$ ?? Plus when people do that in another country, it just makes us all look bad. That may be the only American that guy ever meets. So he's judging all Americans by that ugly one. Sad....

Garage sales

Yeahhhhhh...it's Friday!! Anyone that knows me knows I love Fridays! My week-end starts as soon as I get off work on Fridays! Yeahhhhh! One of my favorite quotes is "nothing can go wrong on a Friday." Tomorrow is Smalltown's city-wide garage sales. Anyone that has anything they want to sell or get rid of puts it in their yard (or garage in case it rains) and people come from nearby towns to come and buy. "One person's junk is another person's treasure." You can find a little bit of everything at the sales. A few people are having their sales open tonight and I'll probably go see what "treasures" I can find. Garage sales are great places to find treasures to put in geocaches. Some in my family are having sales and I gave them my things I want to get rid of. I don't like selling things myself. It's alot of work, plus I never made enough money for me to think it was worth the trouble. I tell my family, "if you don't take it and sell it and keep the money I'm gonna give it to the Goodwill or Salvation Army". They take it. I'm not going to the sales tomorrow coz I offered to baby-sit while my family runs the sales. Plus you wouldn't believe the traffic. I live about a mile out of town, but I feel sorry for the people that live in Smalltown on city-wide garage sale days. People stop where they don't have to, don't stop where they're supposed to, go around the square backwards, park in people's yards, etc. etc. etc. I call them "tourists". Hehe! I try to avoid going into town on that day.

I should have been a dentist....

I went to the dentist yesterday to get my teeth cleaned and it cost me $170!! I think I should have been a dentist! This is a new dentist for me. The last time I got my teeth cleaned at my other dentist it cost $70. But I have to say this new dentist's assistant did alot more checking of my teeth. The only thing she didn't do was a cancer check coz that was gonna cost another $65 and I don't smoke so I didn't figure I needed that check-up. She checked things I never had anyone check for before in my mouth. She explained other things like how they can whiten teeth (very expensive!) and stuff I don't even remember. They also had a TV set where I could watch FOX news while she was working on my teeth. The whole time they were talking about they guy that got life imprisonment for his role in 9/11. After getting over the shock of the cost of this dentist, I think I'll go back to him from now on. I haven't had to have any work on my teeth for a long time coz I keep them very clean coz I HATE getting them drilled on! After I got out of there I went shopping and bought some cards, and a pair of...what do you call them...those pants that come below the knees. I've never had a pair of those before. I don't know if I can get used to them. I hope so..they cost $32! I'm not a shopper and I rarely shop for anything. I only go to the grocery store about once a month. It's not that I don't like to buy things, but money is tight and I don't wanna look if I can't buy. After that I bought one of my favorite foods---PIZZA and breadsticks to take home.

Blogging.....and other stuff....

Sometimes it's hard to think of something to blog about. I read alot of other people's blogs and they're always so interesting. I read some blogs that are alot about politics, some that are what's going on in their lives and some that are really about nothing but for some reason I find them all interesting. I think that's just one of the reasons I don't have time to work on my own blog. Plus, I don't know what's wrong with my camera. It uses a memory stick and I had 2 memory sticks, but guess what? I lost them both! They're not cheap either. I think I left one at Wal-Mart when I developed my pictures and I can't find the other one. My camera also will hold a regular disc that fits into my computer so all I have to do is shoot a pic, take it out, put it in the computer and it's ready. But for some reason the discs keep saying "auto protect". And it's not even filled up. So, now I'm out of discs and I can't find the right ones I need at Wal-Mart! So..I might not be able to take many more (maybe not any) pictures.

I just found a disc with some space so I took a picture of my flowers I planted the other day. I planted them in the dark coz it was gonna rain and I wanted to hurry and get them planted.

I went with some of my family to a "Binga" game yesterday. We played 14 games and none of us won anything! Binga is played like Bingo except you win baskets instead of...whatever it is they win at Bingo...money I think? That was a waste of $16!

I took my 2 little boys to a new Sunday school yesterday. We had been going to a different one for a year or so, but I just didn't feel like I fit in there. The people are friendly at this one... We'll see how it goes. My husband didn't go this time. I told him I'm just an oddball..I don't fit in places. Hehe...
