I read alot of blogs and "i'm inspired" is one I try to read every day. She writes from Texas and also lives in a small town. She posted this about little towns a couple of months ago and I'm just now getting around to posting it on here. I hope to put some links to more blogs I read in the future. Here is her link:
http://backhometostay.blogspot.com/A little town is the only place on earth where people past middle age are called by their first name when they saunter down the street.
A little town is where you don’t have to guess who your enemies are.
Your friends will tell you.
A little town is where everybody knows everybody else’s car by sight and also where and when it goes.
A little town is where you don’t use your signal light because everyone knows where you’re going.
A little town is where you drive into the ditch 5 miles out of town and word gets back into town before you do.
A little town is where the pickups on main street outnumber the cars three to one.
A little town is when you get a wrong number you can talk for 15 minutes anyhow, if you want to.
A little town is where it’s hard to walk for exercise because it takes too long to stop and explain to people in cars who stop, honk and offer a ride.
A little town is where city folk say there is nothing to do, but those who live there don’t have enough nights in the week to make all the meetings and social functions.
A little town is where everyone becomes a neighbor in case of need.
A little town is where businessmen struggle for survival against city stores and shopping centers.
A little town is where these same businessmen dig deep many times to help with countless fund-raising projects.
A little town is where many teenagers say there’s nothing to do and then are surprised to learn that their big city peers are saying the same thing.
A little town is where you miss a Sunday at church and you receive a get-well card.
A little town is where someone asks you how you feel, then listens to what you say.
A little town knows all the news before it is published. They just read the hometown paper to see if the editor gets it right.
A little town is when all is said and done is a great place in which to live.Thank God for little towns, and the people who live in them.
UPDATE ON ME: I'm in the process of borrowing the money from the bank to buy the house I live in. Since I'm buying my house off my DAD....he is selling it to me ALOT cheaper than it's worth. Which means I'm going to be able to build on a big dining room/family room...which I'm going to be calling my "play-room". I plan on having a ping-pong table in there with lots of fold-up tables and chairs.
Most Sundays my family gathers at my mom's house for a big family dinner. When I get my room built I can take some of those dinners from her and have them back here. Some people get the idea that Americans aren't close to their familes. Maybe they get that idea from TV, I don't know. But I know alot of families that are close. Like I said mine gets together almost every week-end. Most of us live within a couple of miles of each other. A few live 20 miles away and 1 lives 3 hours away. I e-mail my family a sheet of dates with birthdays, sports event the kids are in and anything else I think they might be interested in. I would like to start a "family newsletter", but I'll have to learn more about this computer first. (There are 6 birthdays in my family this month...that's NOT counting cousins, aunts, uncles, etc.) But that is counting mine...... :) Lots of volleyball games the last 2 months...and my husband got baptized last month. I know, I know, this is only interesting if you're in my family. Anyway.....I'm posting a picture of what my new room looks like before anything is started. We've got a LOT of work to do! That's our snowman in the picture. He fell over.
Psalm 127:4-5 Children born to a young man are like sharp arrows in a warrior's hands. How happy is the man whose quiver is full of them!
